We frequently prioritize caring for others over caring for ourselves. People enjoy caring for their loved ones and pets but find it difficult to concentrate on themselves. Our new guide provides information, strategies, and reminders on how to engage in self-care.
Imagine that a hundred patients are prescribed a drug. Consider what happens next. One-third of them won’t fill the prescription. Half of the remaining sixty-seven will fill it but won’t take the medication correctly. They’ll miss doses. They’ll quit taking it early. They might not even take it at all.
People are better at filling and properly administering prescription medication to their pets and loved ones than to themselves. That’s not a good one. Even from other people’s perspectives, it’s not good. Your pets or other people you care for would probably be happier if you took your medication or take other parts of your life seriously.
What is conscious Self-care?
Conscious self-care is any deliberate choice that supports your physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and/or creative well-being. The type of care must be holistic.
Love Your Neighbor as Yourself
People have misinterpreted or refused to consider the statement ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. If I am someone’s friend, family member or lover, then I am morally obliged to treat myself special as much as they do to themselves I understand that your Being is inexorably tied up with that of others, you should also understand that your mistreatment of yourself can have catastrophic consequences for others. Don’t leave your family members or loved ones bereft or traumatized or miserable due to negligence from focusing attention on yourself.
Why Self-care is important?
You have a moral obligation to look after yourself in the same manner that you would look after, assist, and be good to someone you love and value. You’re important to yourself as much as to other people. You have a vital role to play in the unfolding destiny of the world. You have a part to play to keep the machinery of the world running. A parent takes conscious steps to ensure a child is well taken care of. You get children to brush their teeth. They must put on sweatshirts or snowsuits when they go outside in the cold, even when they object. Why would you think it’s acceptable to do anything less for yourself?
Engaging in self-care helps you to consider the future and ponder, ‘What might my life look like if I were caring for myself properly? What career would challenge me and render me productive and helpful, so that I could shoulder my share of the load, and enjoy the consequences?
How to achieve conscious self-care?
You need to know where you are so that you can start to chart your course. You need to know who you are, so that you understand your limitations.
You must determine where you are going, so that you can bargain for yourself, so that you don’t end up resentful, vengeful and cruel. Have your own principles, so that you can defend yourself against others’ taking inappropriate advantage of you and so that you are secure and safe while you work and play. You must discipline yourself carefully. You must keep promises you make to yourself, and reward yourself, so that you can trust and motivate yourself. You need to determine how to act toward yourself so that you are most likely to become and to stay a good person.
